Spike Lee: My Arrival In Ghana Was Publicised But No One From The Film Office Approached Me
Despite heavy publicity on his arrival in Ghana, American filmmaker Shelton Jackson, also known as Spike Lee says no one from the Ghana film office reached out to him.
Speaking in an interview on Asaase FM monitored by Ghana’s Hub For Pop Culture & Urban Entertainment News – www.nydjlive.com, the filmmaker who recently turned 66 years revealed he would have loved to engage people in the industry had an invitation been thrown at him.
“It was publicized that I was coming and no one has approached me from the film office in Ghana. I would love to meet people in the film industry but no one reached out, ” he said.
He continued by saying; “So there’s a film school here and they know Spike Lee is coming, no one reached out and said ‘Spike, can you speak to our students, I would have done it.”
Perhaps as to why he did not also make an attempt to meet with the industry, Spike Lee made a shocking revelation. He said;
“I did not know there was a thriving film industry in Ghana. I know about Nigeria”
Spike Lee arrived in Ghana on Sunday, March 26, 2023, as part of US Vice-President Kamala Harris’s creative arts team on the historic visit to the motherland.
