Soul Train Awards 2019: Beyonce’s ‘Brown Skin Girl’ Wins + Full List of Winners

Afrobeats superstar Wizkid and South African rapper Anatii are proud winners of the Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award.

Beyonce’s Brown Skin Girl was among winners at the 2019 BET Soul Train Awards held Sunday November 17th in Las Vegas.

Beyonce won the Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award for her songwriting and vocals on “Brown Skin Girl,” a collaboration with Saint Jhn and WizKid, which also marks her daughter Blue Ivy Carter’s first songwriting credit.

The hit track, which swiftly took the world by storm when it dropped, has since become an uplifting anthem for Black girls everywhere. It prompted excited reactions in the form of the #BrownSkinGirlChallenge where the likes of   Lupita Nyong’o   (who Beyoncé name drops in the song) participated.

The track also  inspired a number of cover versions including that of Ghanaian-British rapper  Stormzy  and Nigerian artist  Simi.
