Namaste Wahala, a delightful cross-cultural love story, is set for a Valentine’s Day global release on streaming service Netflix.
Produced and directed by Hamisha Daryani Ahuja, the romcom – a Netflix Original – was shot entirely in Lagos, Nigeria.
The film is the classic love story, with a Nollywood meets Bollywood twist – a Nigerian woman, Didi played by Ini Dima Okojie and her Indian love interest, Raj portrayed by Ruslaan Mumtaz, fall in love despite the differences in their cultural backgrounds.
Through this romantic journey, the couple take their families on a memorable rollercoaster ride of emotions! Namaste Wahala brings it all, beautifully so – the glitter, lushness, and gorgeous colour and textures that both Nigerian and Indian weddings are so famous for! Of course, no wedding is complete without some dramatics – and Namaste Wahala does not disappoint! There are all the familiar hallmarks of Nollywood and Bollywood weddings – the nonstop drama, sheer hilarity, misunderstandings, heartwarming moments, near disasters and strong family bonds make this a definite Valentines Day ‘must-watch’.
Equally impressive is the talent of this witty romcom – Nigeria’s own Richard Mofe-Damijo and Ajoke Silva meet up with well-loved Bollywood actor Sujata Sehgal as the lovestruck couples, senior family members. They are joined by Osas Ighodaro, Broda Shaggi, Frodd of Big Brother fame, Anee Icha, K10, Ibrahim Suleiman and Imoh Eboh.
The musical score was collaboratively created by MI Abaga and DJ Suketu, both acclaimed music producers from Nigeria and India respectively – the result is a scorching soundtrack that brings the energy, heat and effervescence of both cultures to life in a memorable way.
The films Executive Producer & Director Hamisha Daryani Ahuja is certainly well placed to tell this story – as a third-generation Indian living in Nigeria, she deeply cherishes and respects both cultures.
She explains: “I am very excited about my movie Namaste Wahala going to the whole world through Netflix. The movie showcases the beauty of Nigeria and the wealth of talent in Nollywood. The cast and crew were absolutely fantastic to work with. The Indian and Nigerian cultures seem very different but are essentially the same. They both value family, tradition, and respect. Both cultures also have beautiful colours, fashion, music and food. It was amazing to see how beautifully the two cultures which I hold very close to my heart came together in this fusion movie. I can’t wait for all of you to watch it.”
Namaste Wahala is the maiden production of Forever 7 Entertainment founded by Ahuja. The company is based in Nigeria, and currently has several television and film projects in the works.
