Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake has said he is “devastated” by the death of 20-year-old Karen Lojore, who died following a crush at a concert he headlined in Nairobi, Kenya.
In a statement on Monday, Asake said, “My heart goes out to the family, friends and loved ones of Karen Lojore,” he said, pledging to support efforts to “understand what happened”.
“Those responsible should be held accountable.”
Family and friends of the victim have been calling for a full investigation and justice.
Kenya’s police spokesman, Michael Muchiri, told the BBC that investigations were ongoing.
The Asake and Gabzy Live in Nairobi concert was organised by Tukutane Entertainment.
The organisers said they were working with the authorities to “understand what happened”.
Social media users reported long queues outside the 30,000-capacity stadium, with many people stranded while trying to gain entry.
