Afia Schwarzenegger Apologizes To The Tema High Court After Coming Out Of Hiding

Loudmouthed Ghanaian TV character Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa popularly known as Afia Schwarzenegger has issued an apology to the Tema High Court.

The apology comes weeks after a bench warrant was issued for her arrest for absenting herself in court in a case brought against her for comments passed on UTV’s United Showbiz.

Afia Schwarzenegger who had since her arrest warrant been missing from any public gathering until yesterday (December 20, 2022) in a statement shared on her social media apologized to the law court and the general public for her comments.

“I, against my better judgement, was a panellist on the aforementioned show which discussed among other things, a matter that was before the court. Whilst it was never my intention to delve into the substance of the matter, I have come to the realisation, though belatedly that my conduct and comments, should have been measured by caution and restraint.”

She admitted her conduct had the tendency of bringing the reputation of the court into question.

“The discussion on the show had the tendency of bringing the authority of the Court into question and upon sober reflection, I unreservedly apologise for my actions and conduct and any role I played in the events that ensued on that programme.”

She has since promised to conduct her affairs in a manner that will not cause public disaffection nor seek to undermine the Courts of Ghana.

Chairman Wontumi had dragged Afia Schwarzenegger and the other contemnors including United Television (UTV) to court after she and the other contemnors decided to run commentary on a case pending before the court in July 2022.

Counsel for the applicant, Maurice Ampaw, argued that they were to be penalized to help deter others from making such unsubstantiated claims.

In the affidavit in support of the motion to commit the respondents to prison for contempt of court, counsel for applicants, Maurice Ampaw said on Saturday, July 9, 2022 edition of the United Showbiz programme, the host and the executive producer offered their platform to other panellists to discuss Afia Schwarzenegger’s alleged romantic affair with Chairman Wontumi, which he said was a subject matter for determination by the court, stressing that it was sub judice hence the action in court.

Fadda Dickson Narh, Empress Nana Ama Mcbrown, Afia Schwarzenegger, Kwame A Plus and Mr Logic together with UTV were cited for contempt based on a panel discussion they held on United Showbiz discussing the merits or otherwise of a defamation suit which was pending in court.

On Thursday, December 1, 2022, the High Court in Tema convicted and fined all of them.

A bench warrant was issued for the arrest of Afia Schwarzenegger who was not present in court.

She was to spend 10 days in prison when arrested while the others paid GH¢60,000 each.

Fadda Dickson Narh, Executive Producer of the United Showbiz programme on UTV was however pardoned by the court after the court held that he showed remorse before the case was brought to court by causing a publication to be made on UTV apologising.
