As a lover of Ghanaian comedy, I’ve watched the rise of Ebenezer Dwomoh – also known as The Architect Without a Plan and The Dwoker – with great admiration. From the first time I saw him perform his debut special, Seriously Joking, to his most recent show, Funnitecture, it’s been clear that Dwomoh is not just funny; he’s intentional, consistent, and refreshingly original.
So, you can imagine my concern (and mild heartbreak; no major heartbreak) that in three whole years, after ten nominations at the Ghana Comedy Awards, he’s yet to take home a single win.

That’s not a small feat. In three years, Dwomoh has delivered three major specials and performed across multiple countries (Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria), and he is the only comedian who has consistently hosted his comedy specials both in Kumasi and Accra.
Aside from the above, he also co-hosted a radio show that gained traction within and outside the comedy space.
And yet, no wins? Come on! The Ghana Comedy Awards even gave out Honorary Awards this time to people who have contributed to comedy, and The Dwoker still didn’t get even that. Why?
You may be wondering why this matters!
This isn’t about awards validating talent. Ebenezer himself, in a recent Facebook post, graciously congratulated the winners, applauded the award organizers, and expressed genuine appreciation for the support he gets from fans, media, and fellow comedians. He even joked that saying “I feel like a winner already” sounds like something a non-winner would say (we love a self-aware kingCo).
But still, it matters.
Because awards are not just trophies; they’re platforms. They amplify voices, open doors, attract sponsors, and fuel the next big thing. And if a comedian like Dwomoh, who’s built a strong, unique brand rooted in wit, cultural relatability, and architectural storytelling, keeps getting passed over, then we have to ask: What are we rewarding, really?
This isn’t a call-out; it’s a call-in. To the Ghana Comedy Awards and to us as a community, to reflect on how we recognize consistency, creativity, and contribution. Because The Dwoker isn’t just putting on shows. He’s building something, brick by brick, and if we’re not careful, we’ll only fully appreciate it when the building’s already finished.
Until then, we can only just keep clapping, keep showing up, and keep saying it louder: Ebenezer Dwomoh is a winner, whether there’s a plaque on his shelf or not.
