British actor of Ghanaian descent Idrissa Akuna Elba, well known as Idris Elba is in Kumasi, Ghana.
Whilst in Kumasi, the actor, musician and DJ paid homage to the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II during the celebration of the Akwasidae Festival on Sunday, February 5, 2023.
Spotted in a beautiful woven kente cloth, Idris Elba sat patiently as he watched on admiring the traditional celebrations.
He later took his turn to shake hands with the King.
Idris Elba is in the region to shoot a documentary on gold.
The Akwasidae (Sacred Sunday) is celebrated every six weeks at the Manhyia Palace, Kumasi, Ashanti Region.
Centred on ancestral veneration, remembrance and acknowledgement of past kings and various noble feats, it begins from the Asantehene’s throne room and is attended by large crowds in traditional clothing like the royal kente.
