Ghanaian music star Jay Bahd’s nomination for Best New Artist at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards has been revoked.
The revocation follows a review of a petition filed by media personality and VGMA Academy member Austine Woode.
In a petition filed on Monday, March 20, 2023, the media practitioner among other reasons explained why the musician did not qualify for the Best New Artist category.
Charterhouse Petitioned Over Jay Bahd’s Best New Artist VGMA24 Nomination
He made use of the newly introduced one-week window provisional window for dispute resolution on 2023 VGMA Nominations opened by Charterhouse, organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards
In response to his petition, the organizers of the award in a statement shared via social media on Wednesday, April 5 2023 revealed his concerns were legitimate hence revoking Jay Bahd’s nomination.
Parts of the press release read;
“On the night of the Nominees Announcement Show for the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, a one-week provisional window for addressing errors and omissions was announced.
Following this announcement, a number of well-meaning stakeholders made several submissions to the Board. These concerns have been reviewed and responses have been sent to the various petitioners. One of the submissions made, which has generated high public interest, is Jay Band’s inclusion in the Best New Artiste category.
After deliberations, the Board agrees that Jay Band is not new to the scheme, because of his shared nomination on Yaw Tog’s `Sore’ for Collaboration of the Year in 2021.
This means he’s not eligible as a nominee for the Best New Artiste category of the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. The error has been corrected, and Jay Band and his team have been informed accordingly. The inconvenience is deeply regretted.”
