Highlife and dancehall music star Tony Dath has slammed comments made by former BHIM Nation artist Kelvyn Boy, who claimed that Ghanaians don’t appreciate artists who sound Ghanaian, calling them “trash.”
He made the comments during an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty saying,
“We are finding it hard when we sound typical Ghanaian. I mean, no dey go when we do it like that. Even if ego is just here, you come back and say, ‘Oh, why are we just here and some people are international?’” Kelvyn Boy stated.
In a sharp rebuttal, Tony Dath in an interview on Onua FM Showbiz with NKG, disclosed the comments were unfortunate.
“Kelvyn Boy’s comments are trash. It’s such a wrong statement, and he shouldn’t have uttered them considering his background and craft as a highlife artist.” He said.
“We can make the most of high life. Legends like Kojo Antwi, Samini, Sarkodie, Ofori Amponsah, and many others like Black Sherif have made big career moves internationally, still sounding Ghanaian. What has Kelvyn Boy achieved, sounding non-Ghanaian?” he queried.
Asked if he had any personal issues with the Down Flat hit maker, the Merci Beaucoup hit maker answered in the negative saying, “I have no beef with him. I’m only trashing what he said. Kelvyn Boy knows that I have the same experience as him, and so I can equally tell him when he makes a trashy comment.” Tony Dath said.
