MOTAC Puts To Rest Confusion Over Location of Film Village In Ashanti Region

The Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts And Culture has put to rest confusion among industry players in the Ashanti Region over varying reports on the selected location of the intended Film Village in the Region.

Days ago, the Creative Arts Forum Ashanti in a press release called on the Minister, Honourable Barbara Oteng Gyasi to make clear government’s choice of destination for the said film village and reasons for choosing a site over the other.

Following the release, Honourable Barbara Oteng Gyasi together with the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts And Culture, Dr. Ziblim Idi in a stakeholder meeting held on Friday, September 18, 2020, at the Royal Lamerta Hotel in Kumasi, put to rest all the rumours stating the government had not settled on a site for the construction of the film village yet.

CONFUSION! Where Exactly Is The Film Village Going To Be Built? – Creative Forum, Ashanti Questions Minister

Although she admits a team was made to tour the three (3) sites offered and made a recommendation, the Ministry had not settled on any site yet.

She also explained it was not up to the Ministry alone to decide on the selection of the site since the project will be funded through a Public-private partnership (PPP) which allows investors to also make an input after an expression of interest.

“A decision has not been taken yet on the exact site for the Film Village yet although we know it would be built in the Ashanti Region. We have so far been presented with three (3) sites including Hemang, Sekyere and Kunsu” she said.

Madam Barbara Oteng Gyasi however assured industry players off plans to assist the already existing film village in Kunsi to access the Ghana Tourism Development Project Fund for site developers to help them continue production ahead of the intended new project

Present at the gathering was a high powered delegation from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts And Culture, Creative Arts Council with selected members from the Film Producers Association of Ghana, actors, actresses, directors, film crew and a section of the media.
