Ed Sheeran Explains Why He Didn’t Release “Shape of You” and “Castle on the Hill” Last Year – NYDJ Live

English singer-songwriter and occasional actor Ed Sheeran surprised his fans days ago when he released two singles Shape of You and Castle on the Hill the same day after a short hiatus from music and social media.

With many asking why the Grammy award winning musician took such an unexpected approach and whether the two songs would feature on the upcoming album Divided which is set for release in March 2017, Ed took time to explain what informed the release.

In an interview with Elvis Duran on New York’s biggest breakfast show on Z100, Ed revealed he was scared his music might fall on death ears had he released them last year.

“I’m glad I came out when I did because I was gonna release in September and the end of the year just starts getting really clouted with loads of artists releasing because of the Christmas market and I kind of thought it might fall on death ears if I released last year so I just kinna wait for everyone to release and then January is pretty empty. No one is really releasing in January so coming out, people are excited about it.”

Ed would however not confirm or deny if the two singles would make it to the album.
