BET Awards ’21: List of Winners and Honorees

The 2021 BET Awards is over and as always, Ghana’s Hub For Pop Culture & Urban Entertainment News – www.nydjlive.com brings you an updated list of winners.

The event returned Sunday, June 27 with a theme that focused on the “Year of the Black Woman.” Award-winning actress and producer Taraji P. Henson hosted the ceremony from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, where a live audience attended the nearly four-hour show.

Critically acclaimed rapper, actress, producer Queen Latifah received this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award for her “amazing success” throughout her decades-long career. Her “sisters in rap” including Lil Kim, Rapsody, MC Lyte and Monie Love all took to the main stage to honour the entertainer with a performance of her classic hits, “Ladies First” and “U.N.I.T.Y..” Latifah’s, who got emotional during her speech, thanked her parents, siblings and business partner.

The evening was full of other winners including Megan Thee Stallion who was recognized as “Best Female Hip Hop Artist,” “Best Collaboration,” “Viewer’s Choice” and “Video of the Year.”

Best Actress Winner:

Andra Day

The leading role of a lifetime came to R&B star Andra Day in 2021 with The United States vs. Billie Holliday, which earned her an Academy Award nomination and a win at the Golden Globes.

Sportswoman of the Year Award Winner:

Naomi Osaka

The singularly spectacular Japanese-Haitian American tennis champion is speaking out and emerging as a leading voice for young women coping with immeasurable success and mental health wellness.

Among her many achievements, Naomi Osaka is also the highest-paid female athlete of all time, according to Forbes.

Sportsman of the Year Award Winner:

LeBron James

The beloved Los Angeles Lakers forward, also known as King James, helped power his team through a pandemic.

And, with his LeBron James Family Foundation in Akron, Ohio and countless philanthropic efforts, he never stops giving.
