Call it battle of words and you are not far from right as renowned Ghanaian film producer Leila Djansi and celebrated actress Akorfa Edjeani take on each other.
Moments after veteran actress, Akorfa Edjeani in an interview with Accra based Starr FM disclosed she is still paying for costs incurred by Leila Djansi during the shoot of their 2009 award winning movie “I Sing of a Well“, the latter has responded saying the comments are defamatory and not accurate.
Read her response to the accusations.
No more than 15 – 20,000ghc was spent on this film by Akorfa. Initially, my intention was to laugh over the article and move on. But, due to its defamatory nature, and for the sake of my future and career, and because whatever is on the internet stays there forever, I will respond briefly.
1. I did not move to LA after I sing of a Well. I have lived in America for 15 years. I went to school here. Long before I met Akorfa. To create the impression I fled Ghana after I Sing of a Well is tortuous conduct and defamatory.
2. I paid for the cameras which were rented from Clairmont Camera, Los Angeles, under the umbrella of my school, the Art Center College.
I paid for the music, the sound, the editing, on set expenses, PR, insurance, etc. My DoP Aaron Wong spent 3000 dollars of his own on equipment as his contribution to the film.
3. I NEVER, ASKED AKORFA TO BE MY INVESTOR. When I realized her motives were skewered, I told her I preferred to be an investor on the film, rather than a partner with her, And as such, my expenses be paid back and she keeps all the profit. That was the agreement I sent her and, she refused. Instead, she went to court to demand I pay her 150,000ghc as her expenses. When she could not prove the amount she claimed to have spent on the film, she withdrew the case.
At this point, I believe it is in my best interest to involve my attorneys and bring a valid defamation claim against Akorfa Edjeani Asiedu, using the article on your website as evidence.
Any further question on this issue should be directed to my attorney.
Earlier, Akorfa stated Leila Djansi snitched on her by traveling to the United States of America after receiving rashes of the movie and refused to acknowledge her commitment to the movie project.
