The Daddy Yo of African music, Wizid has secured 7 nominations at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards scheduled to air on May 21 at 8PM on ABC.
The musician who recently recruited Canadian rapper Drake for his single Come Closer grabbed nominations for Top Hot 100 Song, Top Selling Song, Top Radio Song, Top Streaming Song (Audio), Top Collaboration, Top R&B Song, and Top R&B Collaboration.
Wizkid secured all these nominations with just one song One Dance which also featured Kyla.
This is no mean feat especially as it makes him the first African artist to ever secure nominations at the Billboard Music Awards which has been in existence since December 1990 until it went dormant in 2006. The awards returned in 2011 and has been held annually in since in May.
Leading the pack with 22 nominations are Drake and The Chainsmokers.
Among those, Drake will compete for Top Artist, Top Male Artist and Top Billboard 200 Artist. The Chainsmokers will also vie for Top Artist, as well as Top Duo/Group and Top 100 Artist.
Twenty One Pilots follows with 17 nominations, then Rihanna with 14, The Weeknd with 13 and Beyonce with 8.
