It is without doubt that the might of Afrobeats star Wizkid transcends the borders of his native home country Nigeria.
The Ojuelegba star just made another major move setting an unprecedented record.
Barely 10 minutes after announcing sale of the 2018 Wizkid Co-Creation Stadium Shirt “NIKE BY WIZKID”, Nike officially announced via its website, that the product had been sold out.
On September 8, Ghana’s Hub For Pop Culture And Ubran Entertainment – www.nydjlive.com published that the star had partnered with Nike for the creation of 2018 Wizkid Co-Creation Stadium Shirt “NIKE BY WIZKID”.
The product was made available for sale on Monday September 10, 2018 and got sold out just 10 minutes after Wizkid made the announcement.
It is immediately unknown how many copies were sold but especially with each selling at £64.95.
Early, this year, Nike teamed up with Wizkid for the brand positioning and sale of official jersey of the Super Eagles of Nigeria which did huge numbers despite a number of replicas finding its way into Africa.
Born in Surulere, Lagos, the name of Wizkid’s Nigerian hometown is emblazoned on the lower back of the artist’s collaborative Nike jersey, a shirt that simultaneously speaks to his local pride and Naija’s cultural clout.
The jersey’s green and white trimmings reflect the Nigerian flag, as does a Naija graphic on the sleeve, while the front features a centrally-placed Nike Swoosh and is highlighted by the iconic Starboy graphic across the chest.
The overall design is a fitting celebration of both personal and collective talent and ingenuity, and one that defines Wizkid’s dizzying accomplishments and Nigeria’s growing cultural footprint.
