Wizkid Makes Billboard History With ‘Essence’

Nigerian superstar Wizkid is here for all the records!

The musician who is readying the release of the deluxe version of his highly acclaimed album Made In Lagos just inked his name in the records of the Billboard charts with the monster hit song Essence.

The song which earned its biggest US sales week to date, with over 93,000 units sold (up by 80%) became the highest-charting Nigerian song in the chart’s history.

According to Charts Data, Wizkid earned his first top 20 hits on the Hot 100 charts as a lead artist.

“Essence” gives the 30-year-old star his third Hot 100 appearance. His breakthrough came as a guest artist on Drake’s “One Dance” (also featuring singer Kyla), which reigned at No. 1 for 10 weeks in 2016.

He returned alongside Beyoncé and Saint JHN on “Brown Skin Girl” (featuring Blue Ivy Carter), which peaked at No. 76 in August 2019.

His album Made In Lagos also reached number one on the World Albums chart for the first time this week making it his first number one album.
