When would we get recognition? Ghanaian video directors cry

Ghanaian video directors believe they deserve better and must be recognized for their work.

It is  quite evident that the cry by Ghanaian video directors to be recognized and awarded for their work is an annual chorus that could be likened to the regular Sunday chants and incantations from the Roman Catholic church (cliche, I mean), however, they are determined and nothing will stop them from pushing for their interest.

Moments after this year’s edition of the 4Syte TV Music Video Awards which was a total ‘joke‘ of an event, renowned video director Nana Asihene of NKACC took to social media to express his frustration over their snub.

According to him, other professionals such as doctors, bankers and others will continue to laugh at them and their professional which until recently, was considered a job for non serious minded people.

He also lashed at the event organizers for choosing to celebrate mediocrity despite the enormous creative talents that abound in Ghana.

Adding up to their (directors) plight, Director OJ of Big OJ Films also expressed his disappointment at presenters of the Best Directed Collaboration Video award which Sarkodie won.

In an interview with Ama Larbie, the director who received the award for Someone Special on behalf of Sarkodie said;

“Sarkodie insisted that I do the receiving as his way of appreciating my efforts, absolutely, the presenters of the award plaque didn’t know who I was as I walked towards them. Are you a rep? I was asked.”

“I couldn’t blame the presenter because the root of issue starts from the organizers so I took it, thanked them and moved on,” he bemoaned

It is increasingly becoming evident that until a musician recognizes a director of a video, nothing else shows.

The question therefore remains, when would video directors be recognized?
