On Monday, March 27, 2023, the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris spent time engaging with some Ghanaian creatives during a tour of the Vibrate Studios in Accra, Ghana.
This was part of her efforts to engage directly with young people and highlight the dynamism and creativity taking place across the continent.
Kamala Harris was joined by her ‘friends’, English actor and DJ Idris Elba and Emmy Award winner Sheryl Lee Ralph.
Kamala Harris expressed her excitement at meeting the creatives.
“I am so excited to be here. For me to be able to come here during this trip and on my first full day in Ghana really is symbolic of the connection that we have as people and a nation” she said.
Present at the gathering were Ghanaian creatives M3nsa, Joey B, Amaarae, Ria Boss, Black Sherif, Baaba J, and a few up-and-coming artists that represent the new generation of Ghanaian and Ghanaian-American entertainers.
Vibrate Space, a community recording studio for young creatives located at Freedom Skatepark in Accra opened in 2022 in partnership with Kendrick Lamar’s company pgLang, Spotify, and local sports NGO Surf Ghana.
Vibrate aims to empower young people by equipping aspiring music entrepreneurs with the necessary tools to compete in the global music market.
