Wahala! Sound Technician Allegedly ‘Mafias’ Ghana Movie Awards Over Delayed Payment

Aside being discredited and referred to as a ‘family and friends’ awards by many industry persons,  the 2019 Ghana Movie Awards saw a number of major challenges.

One of such was a sound technician’s decision to allegedly ‘kill’ the sound at the auditorium just when the MC for the event mounted the stage.

This action, according to a report by Ghanaweb was  due to a  debt owed the sound technician by the organizers.

The site reports that the sound technician insisted on being paid an arrears of  GH¢1,500 before restoring sound for the event which had had already delayed for about 4 hours.

Organisers realizing how serious the issue had become, pleaded with the sound technician but their plea fell on deaf ears as  he will not budge until he is duly paid!

Resorting to mobile money transaction, the organisers made a payment of one thousand Ghana cedis. However, the sound technician would not be moved as he insisted he is fully paid.

The organisers eventually added the remaining five hundred Ghana cedis after which the technician restored sound for the occasion which then continued.

The 2019 Ghana Movie Awards which was held at the National Theatre, Friday, December 20 saw its lowest attendance ever as many continue to lose interest in the awards scheme.
