The Monetisation of Relationships In Southern Nigeria Is Just Too Suffocating – Reno Omokri
Reno Omokri, the special assistant of new media to the president of Nigeria, has called for an urgent cultural reorientation amongst women in Southern Nigeria.
The comment comes after several Nigerians called out Gospel music minister Moses Bliss for not marrying “one of their own” but rather, a Ghanaian.
In a post shared on Instagram, Reno Omokri revealed that Nigerian men would become the toast of others across the African continent if they were granted visa-free access to these countries because it was expensive to fall in love in Nigeria, especially among the South.
He wrote;
I can understand why Moses Bliss married a Ghanaian. I have been to Ghana, and their women tend to be easier to relate with than many Southern Nigerian women. In fact, is love without billing still possible in Southern Nigeria? In our part of the world, ‘He is loving’ means ‘He is spending’. When you tell many Southern Nigerian girls, ‘I love you’, they hear, ‘You owe me’. Especially those with an Industrial Money Obtainer culture. If you marry the Industrial Money Obtainers, I pity you. The billing will become industrial. You will look after her and her entire family. No capping. And better not expect gratitude. In their eyes, you are doing your duty.
If Nigeria had visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to more countries, there would be an epidemic of unmarried women in Nigeria. Because when Southern Nigerian men travel within Africa and outside Africa and encounter beautiful women who are not money-conscious, they quickly lose their appetite for Nigerian women. Already, Nigerian men are considered a catch by South African and Kenyan women.
We urgently need a cultural reorientation amongst our women. Especially in Southern Nigeria. The monetisation of relationships in Southern Nigeria is just too suffocating. I am well-travelled, and I am yet to see the level of commercialisation of romance I have seen in Southern Nigeria.”
In part 2 of his statements, he stated;
“The botanical name for relationships in Southern Nigeria is billing! Dating some Southern Nigerian women is like going into a love relationship with Billy Billerman from Billingham. To ask for their number, in many cases, is to request to receive an urgent 5k text.
If our sisters don’t want all Nigerian men to marry from Ghana and other foreign countries, like Moses Bliss, they must step on the bread with their billing. You met him yesterday, and today you are telling him, ‘My hair is due’. Is he a hairdresser? Travel to Ghana and see how their women are.
Even in Kenya and South Africa. I hear President Ruto wants to make Kenya visa-free for Nigerians. Our women will just lose their men to foreign women if they do not demonetise relationships. Finance-induced romance is becoming a nuisance in Southern Nigeria. Am I lying?”
