It seems I’ve had this kind of writers block for a while and as many times as I wish to get out of it, the more my thoughts get distracted and disorganized. Maybe, any of you could give me a cool advice at the end of this piece.
Before I start with my little piece which I believe will be of great concern to you, I must say Ghanaian music videos have for the past few years seen tremendous improvement especially since the introduction of great directors such as Pascal aka, Big OJ and many others. Artists like Sarkodie, D-Black, 4×4, Kwaw Kese etc have seen the need to sell their brands through their videos and I must, it is really paying off but the problem is why the new trend of displaying guns?
On Monday January 12 2015, I had the chance to watch Kwaw Kese’s new music video to his single Swedru-Agona which features Obrafour and Teephlow and although I overlooked the display of a gun, my mind was quickly drawn back to it today after watching Sarkodie’s new video Revenge of the Spartans.
To some, this is just a part of art and might have happened before but should we be so cool with it?

As a great tool of communication for most artists, I find it worrying that Kwaw Kese and Sarkodie who have very huge fan base would create this path.Yes, the music concepts may be that of the video directors but should we blame them if perhaps, artists do not know exactly what they want and the message they want to carry?
Have you paid attention to the new dress code around? Maybe not, but it seems Pappy Kojo and Joey B have had a huge impact on the youth with their sense of dressing all because of “TONGA”. Hey just joking, all because of their music videos. Can we then have our music videos carry out positivity than display of guns?
On countless occasions, society has been influenced because of music videos ad what we see on TV.
As it stands, I do not really know much about Ghanaian laws on gun possession but I believe something needs to be done as soon as possible to avoid a canker which will end up swallowing all of us.
United States of America has for the past few years seen the worst experiences with possession of gun and due to the exhibition in music videos and movies and I dare say we do not want to go down that thread.
To many, the use of guns in music videos mean nothing but to me, it means a lot… Especially, when in a matter of one week, two top Ghanaian artists have all released videos that has scenes of gun display.
Well, I guess you now know why I said I have a writers block? Disorganized thoughts and perhaps grammatical errors but I believe I brought your attention to something we all need to talk about.
