After 16 good years of being absent from mainstream music, one of the pioneers and pace setters of reggae/dancehall music in Ghana, Root Eye is back with a new single.
In a phone interview with Kobby Drill on sky 96.7mhz, Root Eye he stayed away from active music because reggae/dancehall music wasn’t a lucrative venture then, moreover, he had to take up a challenge to do radio in Takoradi in the western region which he felt was far better.
He further said it eventually became difficult juggling between radio and staying long hours in recording studios although he had penned down some songs.
“I use to put a lot together especially when I was in bathroom but getting to the studio to get it recorded was a problem sometimes” he said.
Root Eye who recently released a new single since 1998 said he is doing everything to keep himself relevant in this fiercely competitive music industry although a lot of people have already applauded the song.
According to him staying relevant in the music industry, is not about releasing songs on weekly or daily basis but carefully working on each project at a time so it stands the test of time.
“I have five songs to release between now and 2015 and I’m carefully working on each song so that it stands the test of time”
Root Eye aside music is the host of the popular Music TV show “Music Music” on Tv3 and a radio presenter at Prime 89.1 Mhz in Accra.
