Sony/ATV Announces New Opportunities For Ghanaian Songwriters And Producers
Leading global music publisher Sony/ATV has announced a new window of opportunity for songwriters and producers in Africa.
This was made known by Munyaradzi Chanetsa (Munya) newly appointed A&R Manager, Africa.
Speaking via phone in an exclusive interview with NY DJ on RYSE N SHYNE in Ghana, Munya revealed his team was poised to unearth and discover the best talents from across Africa.
Asked if there were any special opportunities for Ghanaian creatives considering the fact that roasters of such big brands are almost all the time filled with Nigerians and South Africans, Munya responded saying;
“As my job title says, A&R Manager for Africa so I’m looking out for the continent. However, there are already discussions happening. There are basically a few announcements coming out soon from Ghana. I’m looking forward to Ghana. Don’t worry, Ghana is on my radar big time.”
Munya also touched on how talented producers and songwriters would be recruited. He explained it was a two-way process and that Sony ATV could reach out or be reached.
He, however, stated, there is a caveat.
“It works two ways. There’s going to be a situation where we would be reaching out. The team and myself, we have been doing research and we are looking at highlighting certain artists we want to approach but as you know, there’s talent everywhere. Every day, there’s a fresh new talent so there will be some people we may not know of so we do encourage you (creatives) to also come forward and present whether you’re a songwriter or a producer. I also must add there is going to be criteria put to it because there is a level of quality and standard that we need to maintain at Sony,” he said.
With a wealth of experience in music and publishing, Munyaradzi Chanetsa was announced A&R Manager, Africa by Sony/ATV Music Publishing South Africa on June 1, 2020.
He will be responsible for finding new talent throughout the continent, promoting songwriters’ copyright and careers, and connecting them to larger opportunities around the world. He will also work closely with colleagues to pitch new and existing repertoire into the marketplace.
