Social Media Activist; Courage Ahiati Initiates “Donate A Book Campaign”

Knowing him from his background, he shared this idea with me and I saw the need to help and I believe you can also help in one way or the other.

One of the strongest tools used in the Arab spring was Social Media.  After that revolution, people started asking if a country like Ghana can experience that kind of revolution again and to many asking that question, Social Media Activist Corage Ahiati believes it is a big YES. However a more proactive Revolution; A revolution that will not require people to gather at any square to scream their hearts out; A revolution that will not require the police shooting individuals and chasing them. He believes we can build our own communities through a rigorous Social Media campaign and cause significant changes to the things that affect us by using Social Media effectively. 946901_10201102999677883_661334020_n

On  that  note,  Courage writes, I  have embarked  on an  ambitious  Social media  campaign  to  collect  1000 books in  aid  of a library  project  for the  King Jesus  Charity  home,  located  at Boadi  (  a suburb  of Kumasi – Ghana).  The home began around the 1980s by Rev. Kofi Owusu Afriyie. Currently there are about 200 residents in the home between the ages of a few months to about 20 yrs. They have a very small library which is not well stocked.

These  are people  who  depend  solely  on the benevolence  of  people  to  live.   I  am  of the view  that  we should  teach  these loved ones  how to fish instead  of putting  fingerlings  in their  hands  always.   The  best  gifts and  items we can  give to them  are  the ones  which  will give  them  knowledge;  knowledge  that  will  give  them  power  that no  one can  take away  from  them;  power that  will make them impact on society  positively.  It is said that “the good of a book lies in its being read. A book is made up of signs that speak of other signs, which in their turn speak of things”.  Just a book  can  raise  a world  changer,   a  great mother, generational  thinkers  and doers,  great inventors  and  many others.

This is a clarion call to all us Social Media users.  I am only asking for a book or more from you. Wherever you  are,  whatever you do,  join  this crusade and  let’s  put  not  just smiles  on faces  but  also  knowledge  in the hands  of our less-privileged siblings.  Abraham Lincoln puts it better:  “The things I want to know are in books. My best friend is the man who’ll get me a book I haven’t read”.

Share this  post,  tell  your friends  about  it,  donate a book  and  help  build society  in your own  small  way.
