April 23 will be the big release date of Snoop Lion’s (Snoop Dogg’s reggae alter ego) “Reincarnated” album. It will be the gangster rapper’s recording foray into reggae music which he switched to in 2012 following a trip to Jamaica.
From the lineup of artists Snoop enlists for the new project, such as Chris Brown, Drake, Busta Rhymes and T.I., it looks more like a hip-hop than a reggae album. However, fans can expect Snoop to turn not just his rapper friends but even dance-pop singers as Rita Ora and dancehall stars Popcaan and Mavado into reggae musicians temporarily for his new album.
“This record is all about paying homage and giving respect to those who created and love reggae music, and hopefully introducing it to a whole new audience,” Snoop explained the rationale for tapping into his rap roots for his reggae breakout. “I feel truly honored to make this album and respect to all who blazed the path for me.”
