Singer Behind ‘Just Got Paid’, Johnny Kemp dies mysteriously |Body found floating at Montego Bay beach
Johnny Kemp died at the age of 55. The singer who was best known for his 1988 hit song “Just Got Paid” died mysteriously as his body was found floating at a beach in Montego Bay on Thursday morning, April 16, local police said.
Prior to his death, Kemp was scheduled to perform for Foundation Fantastic Voyage Cruise hosted by Tom Joyner. Reports said that the singer passed away when he fell and hit his head in the restroom while on the Tom Joyner cruise. However, Reach Media, the company responsible for the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage, denied the reports, claiming that Kemp never showed up on the cruise.
“We have received confirmation that Johnny Kemp has passed away,” a representative for the company said in statement. “We do not have any other details. We can confirm he was not on the ship for the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage Cruise.”
Another speculation on the cause of Kemp’s mysterious death emerged. Some people said that he actually died from falling in a rocky beach in Jamaica where he was set to board the cruise. So far, there haven’t been any confirmations about the details of his death yet.
A day after Kemp’s death news broke, hip-hop producer Salaam Remi paid tribute on Instagram. “#RestInPower to Johnny Kemp…I was raised by a community of NY musicians and you were common visitor,” so Remi wrote on Friday, April 17. “With bright smile and laugh and partner in song and wisdom. You’ll be missed. prayers to your family and our extended families.”
