SERENA WILLIAMS and Alexis Ohanian wed at a star-studded, French-ball style ceremony in New Orleans this week, with the bride opting for a custom Alexander McQueen ball gown to wear for her nuptials.
The strapless, belted dress fit for a queen was designed by Sarah Burton for the grand-slam star and also featured a cape. Her accessories were a classic bouquet of white roses and jewellery, worth $3.5 million, by XIV Karats, revealed Vogue.com. Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, wore an Armani suit, while Williams’s bridesmaids were all dressed in bespoke Galia Lahav gowns. The bridal party also included the couple’s two-month-old daughter, Alexis “Olympia” Ohanian, Jr.
The decor of the lavish event was in the style of Beauty And The Beast (the couple’s choreographed first dance was to Tale As Old As Time, the theme tune to the film versions of the fairytale) and the guest list included Beyoncé and her mother, Tina Knowles; Kelly Rowland; Kim Kardashian West and Anna Wintour.
For the party after the “I dos” (at which guests were seated around tables named after Williams’s grand-slam wins), the bride appeared in her second custom dress of the day – a beaded and feathered Versace number – and then a third change came later in the evening, into a shorter Versace dress ideal to hit the dance floor in.
