Although there’s much heard about artists signing endorsement deals all over the world, very often, little is heard about the details of such contracts until one party is not treated well.
Over the weekend, the Founder and CEO of Africa1Media who doubles as lawyer for Sarkodie, Cynthia Jumu Quarcoo sat for an hour long interview with Accra based Live FM where she kept tight lipped over a recent contract signed by the BET Award winner.
Despite persuasion by KOD to find out from the lawyer, she will not budge.
Read a transcript of what transpired.
KOD: I don’t know if it’s changed but I understand you signed the biggest contract for an artist in Ghana which is Sarkodie… What went into it? How big was the money?
Cynthia Quarcoo: I’m not going to say. It’s confidential.
KOD: Was it the biggest?
Cynthia Quarcoo: Well, it was a good deal. And it was a groundbreaking deal.
KOD: Was it about a million dollars?
Cynthia Quarcoo: I wouldn’t say.
KOD: Was it something that was capable of taking care of him for a very long time?
Cynthia Quarcoo: No comment
Do you think it was one of the resources that got him to start a new label, the clothing line and all?
Cynthia Quarcoo: No, that will be disrespectful to him because Sarkodie is a very hardworking young man but what I would say is that was definitely the beginning of greater things to come and that’s still happening.
