My Gospel Album Started With A Powerful Collaboration With A Prominent Gospel Artist – Sarkodie
Multiple award-winning Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has opened up about the origin of his upcoming gospel album, revealing that the entire project was sparked by a powerful collaboration with one of the country’s most respected gospel musicians.
Speaking in a recent conversation with NY DJ on BTM Afrika, Sarkodie disclosed that although he didn’t initially set out to make a gospel album, a particular song set the tone for what would become a full inspirational project.
“I think it started with a song with one of the prominent gospel artists (amazing song), and I was stuck on the song because the first verse was so powerful that I had been competing with it for the second verse.
That got me stuck in time (I’m talking about years ago) until recently, when it all started coming together, and I have a full gospel project,” he said.
The rapper explained that the process began nearly eight years ago when producer MOG gave him a pack of beats that sounded inspirational and motivational. According to him, these instrumentals didn’t fit the usual love song themes he explored, which gradually led him toward gospel music.
“It probably took about 8 years. I didn’t know I was doing a gospel album. MOG gave me a pack, but they all sounded like motivational or inspirational types of music. You can’t sing love songs on them,” Sarkodie shared.
Sarkodie added that he had always wanted to put the project out earlier but didn’t feel the timing was right. Now that the songs are complete, he believes the body of work is nothing short of exceptional.
“I wanted to do it some time ago, but something came up; I didn’t feel like it was right, but I have it. It’s amazing; it’s beautiful music. It’s a no-skip type of tape. I’m trying to discuss with other people in that territory, as far as the gospel is concerned, to understand the seasons where that type of music is ok. If this year is too late, we will just wait till next year,” he noted.
Fans have already expressed excitement, anticipating a deeply spiritual yet artistically rich project that blends Sarkodie’s lyrical mastery with powerful gospel elements.
