Ghana’s rap Doctor Okyeame Kwame has openly confessed and admitted to being a major problem in the promotion of his classic tunes on The Versatile Show album although he also admits other factors militate against the promotion of such carefully arranged materials in the Ghanaian music industry.
Okyeame Kwame, who in a previous interview revealed his best works were never popular was met with strict opposition by a section of entertainment pundits who believed he was rather not doing enough to promote his best works.
Speaking on the Kapital Entertainment Unplugged Show, Okyeame Kwame explained stated in as much as he partially accepts the blame for not promoting the great songs on his album, Ghanaians must not lose sight of the fact that in an era where very little or no attention is given to songs that are not danceable but rich in message, it would be be unwise as a businesman to invest in such a venture since it would make no returns.
Citing an example of challenges he faced promoting Sika, which is a thought provoking classical masterpiece, Okyeame Kwame stated he could not yield the anticipated results after several months of TV airplay and radio promotion due to the terrain at the time.
He however promised to do his best in promoting his works and called on other stakeholders such as radio presenters and DJs to pay attention to great artistic works than follow the crowd.
Okyeame Kwame is currently working on his 5th studio album African Connection which is due out soon.
