Our Local Gospel Acts Aren’t Pushing Enough to Warrant Such A Big Stage – Gospel Presenter

Following the announcement of American singer-songwriter, pastor, and producer of Christian worship music Don Moen as headline artist for a Gospel musical concert in celebration of Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary, there has been varying opinions from a number of concerned citizens including industry personalities.

With a number of people asserting that there’s nothing wrong with Don Moen headlining the concert, others believe it is an unfortunate development and an exhibition of gross disrespect to local Gospel musicians who could also take center stage and deliver exceedingly well.

Among the number who believe none either than Don Moen deserves to headline the concert is radio presenter and former manager of Ghanaian UK based musician, Sonnie Badu, Winfred Daniel Nii Adjei.

In a number of posts on Facebook, the radio presenter who works with Ultimate FM in Kumasi asserts that Ghanaian Gospel musicians are not pushing enough to warrant such a stage as headline acts.

Quite expected, his comment has been met with opposing views from other Gospel musicians who believe until the spotlight is put on local artists, they can never grow that big to also headline such events.

Despite his previous assertion, he again thinks Joe Mettle would be a better alternative to headline the Ghana at 60 Gospel concert.

“One person I know can headline this show is Joe Mettle. Pls apart from him, mention 1 person u feel can headline such a big show.”

Issues of patriotism has since been raised as to whether the government of Ghana led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo really cares about its own creative arts industry and believes in its players.

Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub Committee of ‘Ghana at 60 celebrations, Jefferson Sackey has explained Don Moen’s selection as headline artist for the Ghana @60 Gospel Concert is as a result of a private initiative.

According to Jefferson,

“This is actually a private initiative. A group contacted us that they are in the process of bringing in Don Moen and we thought that it is a laudable idea to have him in the country especially as we are celebrating 60 years of existence as a nation,”
