Britain is just hours away from its first coronation in seven decades, a historic day overflowing with pomp and pageantry. And while many are revelling in the spectacle, camping on the city streets and waving Union Jack flags in the rain, the British press has also acknowledged that the celebrations are, quite frankly, bananas.

“For an institution that is supposed to chunter away genially in the background, it has been quite in-your-face for a while now,” the BBC wrote, branding the coronation the “strangest show in town.” The broadcaster also issued a guide for those wanting to avoid the celebrations.
