Kenya

Just like many Ghanaian musicians have expressed their disappointment in the dominance of foreign content on their traditional media platforms, Kenyan musicians are also not happy with their system which runs almost the same manner.

According to Emmanuel Igunza of the BBC, the embittered musicians who are seeking for more airtime for their local artists and more importantly, their homegrown music have hit the streets of the country’s capital, Nairobi to register their displeasure.

The artists are calling on radio and TV stations to give local artists more airplay. They want 70% of airtime to be devoted to Kenyan music.

There have been several attempts to get a law to compel radio stations to do this but they’ve not been successful.
