Indecent Assault: Juliet Asante Makes Damning Allegations Against Two Male Bosses At National Film Authority

Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, the former executive secretary of the National Film Authority under the erstwhile Akuffo Addo government, has shared a terrible ordeal she endured while serving in her role.

In a lengthy note shared on Facebook, the Legatum and Aspen Fellow narrated how she was handed a nonexistent office with virtually no budget and staff to work with.

She also described the disrespect that her office was met with over the period. Aside from the administrative challenges, Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante also made damning allegations against her former bosses, citing indecent assault.

In a post, she wrote,

“I remember vividly a day when I was caught between two male bosses. One lifted me up bodily and shoved me into the arms of another, insisting that I hug him! The latter hugged me and commented, ‘Maybe I am the one who will marry you one day.” That night, I scrubbed myself until my skin was tender. I felt dirty.”

The narration has sparked up concerns about the abuse women face in various spaces. The bosses are yet to be identified.

Section 103 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960, Act 29 reads:

(1) Whoever indecently assaults any person shall be guilty of a misdemeanour and

shall be liable on conviction to a term of imprisonment of not less than six months.

(2) A person commits the offence of indecent assault if, without the consent of the

other person he—

(a) forcibly makes any sexual bodily contact with that other person; or

(b) sexually violates the body of that other person

in any manner not amounting to carnal knowledge or unnatural carnal knowledge.

On Friday, February 28, 2025, actress Kafui Danku-Pitcher and actor James Gardiner were appointed Executive Secretary and deputy Executive Secretary, respectively, of the National Film Authority.

The National Film Authority is one of 13 agencies under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, & Creative Arts tasked with the responsibility of creating a dynamic, economically self-sustaining, and culturally conscious film industry in the country in the national interest.
