In today’s fast-paced world, where creatives yearn for instant fame and would do anything to attain it, Ghanaian music star Tony Dath says he’s cast differently and has his eyes on a different throne.
The musician who had recently been in the news for calling out fellow musician Kelvyn Boy in an interview with BTM Afrika shot down claims that suggested that his interest was to ride on the former’s fame to success.
According to him, he only sought to correct an erroneous impression created by Kelvyn Boy.
“It’s quite unfortunate that Ghanaians assume that people who speak truth to power in times of need to save situations are tagged as opportunistic. If I wanted fake hype, I would have engineered it a long time ago. I’ve seen enough in this industry to know how to engineer these fake trends, but that’s not my ultimate goal.
I don’t want to be known for the wrong reasons. I believe my career is different. I didn’t attack Kelvyn. I only attacked what he said, which was to protect the genre that feeds me, highlife,” he said.
Barely a week ago, Tony Dath released his much-anticipated 5-track EP titled Adadamu EP. The EP, which features Ras Kuuku, immediately went into the charts, placing number 1 on iTunes Ghana.
The Adadamu EP also dominated both the Albums and Songs charts, with tracks like “Maade3“, Dadwen” (featuring Ras Kuuku), “Odometer”, and “Gaba”, which comfortably occupied multiple positions in the Top 10 Songs category.
The project surpassed releases by global icons such as the Foo Fighters, signalling a shift in local music consumption and fan loyalty.
