The hopes of the Blackstars of Ghana in qualifying to the 1/16th stage of ongoing world cup in Brazil were dashed this evening as they lost to Portugal in a 2-1 defeat.

The game saw John Boye score an own goal in the first half which was later neutralized by a goal from the captain of the side Asamoah Gyan. With hopes high as information trooped in that the USA were also a goal down to the Germans, the Blackstars still could not make it as Cristiano Ronaldo put salt to injury by making it two for the Portugal.

The game ended with the Portuguese winning, however, both teams do not make it past the group stages. Germany therefore leads the group with USA placing second.

Asamoah Gyan is now the top-scoring African in World Cup history with 6 goals, 1 ahead of Roger Milla

Earlier today, several challenges had been reported in the camp of the Blackstars leading to Sulley Muntari and Kevin Prince Boateng being handed an indefinite suspension from the national team.
