Social networking giant Facebook on Wednesday kick-started its account verification. This new policy brings on a feature that allows users to identify official or legit pages and profiles of celebrities, brands, journalists, businesses etc.
This feature is already being done by social media network Twitter under the name Verified Accounts.
Verified facebook pages/profiles will have a special verification badge next to their name so users can verify its authenticity.
According to Facebook, admins of pages do not have to take any action in order to get a verification badge.
The verification is automatically done immediately facebook determines the authenticity of the page or profile. In the meantime, facebook will commence verifying pages with huge following and is at risk of duplication.
Facebook cannot accept verification requests for all pages at this time, the source said.
Official pages and profiles that do not get the verification badge which is a little blue-coloured tick mark can contact facebook via its help centre and make the request. They can also report fake accounts so it enables facebook easily identify the real from the fake.
The new Facebook Verification Badges will appear alongside the name of the page/person, when users hover over the name of a page, in search results as well as News Feed in desktop as well as mobile modes. Apart from that, the badges will also be shown in stories about users liking a page as well as in “Pages You May Like” suggestions.
