Drake Abandons Wizkid In Promotion of New Single “Come Closer” – Nigerians Descend Heavily On Billboard

The world has been overly excited at the release of Come Closer, a new smash hit single from Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Wizkid, who gifted Drake a record-breaking hit last year One Dance.
However, a party on the song seems uninterested in the buzz and promotion of the new song and it’s obviously not Wizkid who owns the song but Drake, the Canadian born rapper.
Yes, despite the excitement and buzz generated prior to and after the official release of the track, Drake has yet to make any comment on the song or make any post.
This is clearly unlike the hype and buzz he gave about One Dance which broke several records.
A check by Ghana’s Hub For Pop Culture & Urban Entertainment News – www.nydjlive.com reveals Drake has not made any post concerning the song on any of his social media platforms.
We must however state that Drake has been a bit inactive on all his social media platforms but for Instagram.
Per our checks, the last update on Facebook was on October 11 2016. His last update on Twitter remains March 19 2017 when he tweeted a link to his new album More Life.
As indicated earlier, Drake has been very active on Instagram as his recent post (as of the time of this publication) was on Lionel Richie.
Could this be a replica of the Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie and American rapper Acehood saga?
In 2015, Ghana’s most decorated rapper Sarkodie featured Acehood in a single New Guy and despite the excitement that came with its announcement, Acehood is yet to cough about the song on any platform.
Just maybe, it’s early days yet since Drake’s OVO Sound seems to be in love with Wizkid and gives him heavy rotation. That could be counted as a part of the promotion right?
Among the artists who have shown love to the song is Tinie Tempah, Gigs, Mugeez and many others.
Well, Wizkid announces the official video to the song is ready and will be made available soon.
Come Closer, which is produced by Sarz, is Wizkid’s first single released under RCA Records/Sony Music following his recent multi-album deal with the international music company.
In a related development, Nigerians have taken to Twitter to register their displeasure at Billboard, an American entertainment media brand owned by the Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group, a division of Eldridge Industries for using Drake’s picture as a featured image in a post shared in relation to the new single Come Closer.
According to a number of tweeps, Billboard could have done better by using a featured image of both artists or better still that of Wizkid since the song belonged to him.
Check out their tweets.
