Cuba Gooding Jr Settles Rape Lawsuit Ahead of Civil Trial

Actor Cuba Gooding Jr has settled a lawsuit with an unnamed woman who accused him of raping her in a New York City hotel room in 2013.

According to multiple sources, the news of the settlement came as jury selection was due to begin in a federal civil trial that was expected to include damaging testimony against him.

Jury selection in the Jane Doe trial had been scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday. But there was no sign at that time of Mr. Gooding or of the plaintiff’s lawyer, Gloria Allred, the longtime women’s rights advocate.

An entry on an electronic docket for the case that appeared Tuesday morning said: “The parties have resolved the matter.”

The plaintiff had been seeking $6 million in damages. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

“I have no comment at this time,” the woman’s attorney, Gloria Allred, said in response to an email by ABC News.

The Academy Award winner, 55, has insisted his interactions with the woman were consensual.

Mr Gooding pleaded guilty last year to kissing a woman without her consent.
