Saturday September 7, 2013 will be the darkest and an unforgettable day for Broadcaster Gideon Aryeeduaye.
The RTP Awards 2010 Best Television Newscaster, who was preparing to complete the final funeral rites for his deceased father, last Saturday, was hit with another bad news the same day he was supposed to bury this father. 
While preparing to leave home with his family including his mother for his father’s internment, his mother collapsed and died shorty on that same Saturday. Gideon confirmed this unbelievable news on Peace FM’s “Entertainment Review” last Saturday “Yes! She had just finished taking her bath and she was dressing up to go and see her husband’s body for the last time before he is sent to the cemetery and she collapsed all of a sudden. We rushed her to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital where she died”.
According to Gideon his mother was lying on his lap in the car on their way to the hospital and it appears she took her last breathe before they reached the health facility. He added that the doctor pronounced his mother dead after a brief examination. Gideon said this happened too fast and sudden, they couldn’t believe it so they had to seek a second opinion. He disclosed that they sent his mother to two other doctors in different departments and they both confirmed she was dead.
“So we had to immediately make arrangement to put her in the mortuary before we went back home to continue my father’s final funeral rites”. His father has finally been buried and the family is yet to announce the date for his mother’s funeral.
Asked if his mother was sick, he said there was nothing wrong with her. “No! she was not sick. She was very strong even after my father passed. She woke up very strong in the morning and in the afternoon she was gone”. He however revealed that his mother had a surgery on her leg not too long ago but she had recovered and has been going about her normal duties.
“Sometimes I think some ladies are not strong enough to get used to the fact that a man they have spent more than half of their life with is dead. She may say everything is alright but deep down her heart she may be dying slowly. I think she just couldn’t contain the death of her husband”.
He said his father died at the age of 79 and his mother was 78.
Gideon Aryeequaye was a TV News Anchor at TV3 and later left for ETV-Ghana. He also worked at Happy FM, as host of World@Five, a current affairs program. In 2012, he contested the Parliamentary seat at the Weija constituency but lost out in the battle.
Aside that, Gideon writes scripts for movies, jingles and produces TV commercials. He attended the Koforidua Secondary Technical, from where he proceeded to the University of Ghana, Legon where he read chemistry and later, had short refresher courses in Media Broadcast at the University of East London.
