In a society where the creative arts industry believes in hype than quality work, it is quite evident that mediocrity would be abundant and that is exactly what Ghanaian dancehall artist, Shatta Rako who has been described by many as a rare talent is up to campaign against.
Starting a new campaign dubbed “Talent Over Hype” via social media, the artist believes it is time the Ghanaian media identified and supported quality craft than being bought with money.
According to him, “the media seems to be forgetting how powerful it is..let’s not forget it is the fourth arm of Government and therefore has enough power to turn the hands of time. I get worried when the conscience of some media personalities are bought with coins and as such can’t support the best talents out there…. tune in to most radio stations and what you hear on air is awful. “
The campaign has so far attracted other personalities including outspoken reggae musician and radio presenter Blakk Rasta and dancehall artist Episode who believe quality must reign than hype.
In a recent interview on eTV, Blakk Rasta disclosed the society supported mediocrity hence Ghana’s inability to have it’s music all over the word unlike Nigerian music.
Episode in a separate post on Instagram joined the campaign as he rallied for support for a brother using the #TalentOvaHype.
Can there ever be a change in the industry? Well, we live to see.
