Award-winning British-Ghanaian actress and producer Ama K. Abebrese is set to star in one of the year’s most ambitious cross-continental film projects. According to Deadline, the award-winning actress and producer has joined the cast of the thriller Boyz Trip.
The film boasts a heavy-hitting international ensemble, featuring Hollywood actors Rome Flynn (How to Get Away with Murder) and Algee Smith (Euphoria), as well as comedian Desi Banks. The production also brings together top-tier South African talent, including Ama Qamata, Thapelo Mokoena, and Bohang Moeko.
Directed by Kyle Scott, Boyz Trip follows a group of friends whose celebratory getaway to South Africa takes a dark and dangerous turn.
The synopsis reads: “Tired of their usual yearly meet-up, four college friends decide on a boys’ getaway that quickly spirals into international chaos, forcing them to rely on old bonds, questionable skills, and pure luck just to make it out alive.”
Ama K. Abebrese’s inclusion in this high-budget production further solidifies her status as a bridge between African cinema and the global stage. Known for her transformative performances in Sinking Sands and Netflix’s Beasts of No Nation, Ama K. Abebrese brings a layer of veteran gravitas to a cast that blends American star power with African excellence.
The project is currently filming on location in South Africa, utilizing the country’s stunning landscapes as the backdrop for what is being teased as a pulse-pounding cinematic experience.
For Abebrese, Boyz Trip follows a consistent run of high-profile projects, including The Burial of Kojo and Azali. Her ability to seamlessly navigate diverse roles—from gritty dramas to intense thrillers—makes her a standout addition to this ensemble.
