Akosua Serwaa Is Not The Only Surviving Spouse Of Lumba – Court Rules

The High Court 5, General Jurisdiction, Kumasi, presided over by the learned High Court Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Mrs Dorinda Smith Arthur (PhD), has dismissed claims of Akosua Serwaa, 1st wife of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, alias Daddy Lumba, that she was married under civil law and thus, the only lawful wife of the musician.

In a judgment read to a packed courtroom on Friday, November 28, 2025, Her Ladyship Smith Arthur held that for issue one regarding the civil marriage between Akosua Serwaa and Lumba, the plaintiff could not prove a civil marriage between her and the deceased; hence, there was no existing civil marriage between her, Akosua Serwaa, and Charles Kwadwo Fosu (Lumba).

According to the Kumasi High Court, in its 74-page judgment, what existed between Akosua Serwaa and the famous music icon was just their customary marriage. The Court thus held that the Plaintiff, Akosua Serwaa, cannot be said to be the only surviving spouse of Daddy Lumba.

Is Priscilla Ofori, alias Odo Broni, also a wife?

The comprehensive decision of the High Court under the hand of Dorinda Smith Arthur J. suggests that Priscilla Ofori, a known wife of Daddy Lumba, is legally also a wife to the deceased musician and thus holds all rights under law as a spouse of the deceased musician.

The Court, in the delivery of its decision, has set 1st December 2025 as the date for the availability of certified copies of the judgment of the Court.

Widowhood rites

According to the decision of the Kumasi High Court, the family of Daddy Lumba shall have the right to determine which of the wives of Daddy Lumba will perform the widowhood rites of the deceased musician.
