‘Baahubali 2’ Blasts Past 1,700 Crore / $265 Million, Readies For New Lands

In its seventh week of release, Baahubali: The Conclusion has continued to draw in a steady stream of ticket buyers to keep the cash registers ringing. As of Wednesday, its 48thday of release, the SS Rajamouli-helmed epic had grossed 1366 crore rupees ($212 million) in Indian theaters, and an additional 342 crore ($53 million) overseas, for a total of 1,708 crore rupees or $265 million.

That domestic total for Baahubali 2 is more than two-and-one-half times the domestic total for its box office rival, Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal, and would have been enough to ensure Baahuabli’s place atop the chart of India’s all-time highest-grossing films were it not for China. That single territory has embraced Dangal like one of its own, pouring over $181 million so far into the film’s coffers, and putting it roughly 220 crore rupees ($36 million) ahead of the Rajamouli film.

Still, Baahubali: The Conclusion can lay claim to its own set of bragging rights, including the following all-time box office records:

  • Highest opening day gross India: 144
  • Highest opening day gross WW:   217
  • Biggest weekend WW:                     522
  • Fastest to 500 crore worldwide:    3 days
  • Fastest to 700 crore worldwide:    5 days

The filmmakers at Arka Media Works are preparing international release prints for Baahubali 2 to travel to distant lands in hopes of generating the same sort of adoration that it has at home. Producer Shobu Yarlagadda confirmed last month that dubbing was underway in several Asian languages.
