‘Straight Outta Compton’ Is Now The Highest-Grossing Musical Biopic Of All Time

Straight Outta Compton continues to rule the box office and landed on top for a third consecutive weekend. But what is more, the film is now the highest grossing musical biopic of all time.

Thanks to a third consecutive week atop Hollywood’s scorecard, “Straight Outta Compton” has earned its place in history as the highest-grossing music biopic ever, International Business Times has reported. The previous champ, “Walk The Line,” about Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, had grossed $119 million. Through just three weeks, “Striaght Outta Compton” has earned over $134 million, Box Office Mojo reported.

Thanks to the success of “Straight Outta Compton,” two of the three top-grossing biopics are about Hip Hop artists (“8 Mile,” a film loosely based on Eminem’s life is the other), which speaks to Hip Hop’s cultural primacy.
