Ghana Education Service Denies Reinstating Teacher Kwadwo

  • The Ghana Education Service (GES) has denied reinstating Teacher Kwadwo into the Service.

Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Education Service, Daniel Fenyi, has described as “false” reports that suggest that Mr Michael Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Teacher Kwadwo, has been reinstated into the Service.

His comment follows social media reports that suggest the comedian and trained teacher had been reinstated following his dismissal in 2021.

A statement shared by the Service reads,

The attention of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has been drawn to reports circulating in sections of the media suggesting that Mr Michael Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Teacher Kwadwo, has been reinstated into the Service.

The Ghana Education Service wishes to state that the report is false. Mr Owusu Afriyie has not been reinstated.”

The Service further noted that if Mr Owusu Afriyie believes his dismissal was contestable, he may submit a formal petition in writing for due consideration.

“However, if Mr Owusu Afriyie believes that his dismissal, which happened in 2021, is contestable, he is encouraged to submit a formal petition in writing for due consideration.”

Teacher Kwadwo, who gained nationwide popularity for using comedy and digital content creation to highlight challenges in the education sector, was dismissed by the Ghana Education Service in December 2021. His dismissal followed disciplinary proceedings, with the GES citing professional misconduct.
