Ghanaian dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been detained by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
His detention was confirmed in a statement released by his media manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah.
According to the statement, Shatta Wale was detained on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, over “tax obligations of a yellow Lamborghini vehicle”.

FBI And EOCO Seize Lamborghini From Shatta Wale’s Home In Proceeds Of Crime Investigation

On August 6, 2025, the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) revealed it had, in collaboration with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Justice Department, retrieved a luxury vehicle from the home of Shatta Wale.
The operation, carried out at Trassaco Valley Phase 1 in Accra, followed a 2023 request from the FBI and the Justice Department for assistance in recovering proceeds of crime linked to Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving an 86-month sentence in the US for multiple financial crimes.
According to EOCO, the search led to the discovery and seizure of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which US authorities have tied to the criminal enterprise of Amuah. The luxury SUV is part of a $4.7 million restitution order issued by a US court.
Shatta Wale reportedly pleaded with officers to keep the seizure private, expressing concerns that the public removal of the vehicle (seen as a key part of his brand) could harm his image.
Authorities allowed him to surrender the vehicle voluntarily, and it is now in EOCO’s custody.
The FBI and the Justice Department plan to file a formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request to have the vehicle returned to the US. EOCO confirmed that Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau (NSB) have been designated as persons of interest and will be invited for questioning in the coming days.
