Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo has openly criticized the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) for allegedly providing fake flight tickets to Ghanaian filmmakers invited to attend the prestigious event with an all-expenses-paid package.
Sarfo and other prominent industry figures like Pascal Amanfo and Akorfa Adjeani were stranded and embarrassed at the airport after discovering they were not listed in the airline’s system.
According to Sarfo, the invite promised a fully covered trip, complete with flight details and an itinerary.
However, when they arrived at the airport, there was no communication from AMAA, and they soon learned they had no confirmed flights.
An irate Gloria Sarfo charged that they could have afforded their tickets had they been allowed to, but they trusted the invite because it was supposed to be covered by AMAA.
She added that this left her missing several career commitments, including a feature film project, a set engagement, a premiere, and another awards night.
Sarfo pointed out that Ghanaians prioritize the comfort and convenience of Nigerian invitees at similar events, ensuring their travel, accommodation, and sometimes even payment.
She expressed disappointment that this mutual respect was not extended to them.
She concluded by demanding an apology from AMAA and calling on the Ghanaian film industry to speak up against such treatment, which she said diminishes their value and contributions to African cinema.
