The Prince of Afrobeats, Rema will not countenance anything that defeats a well-thought-through and threatened to cut short his performance at the 2024 Dreamville Festival in North Carolina.
Rema was performing his hit song ‘Calm Down’ on Day 2 of the festival at Dix Park in Raleigh, but stopped midway to complain about the poor sound before walking off the stage.
He advocated for the same sound quality for African artists as their Western counterparts on international stages.
He said, “I’m not feeling this sh*t at all. It’s too messed up. I’m representing Africa, this is too messed up. So the sound cannot be perfect for every artist that gets on this stage and then Africa is in the house and you are messing sh*t up. I’ll walk off the stage. Fix it!”
Dreamville Festival was created by American hip-hop superstar, J. Cole.
