So on Monday December 22 2014, as we sat anxiously at the Kumasi Circuit Court awaiting trial of embattled Ghanaian rapper Kwaw Kese, I engaged Grandpapa of hiplife music Reginald Osei popularly known as Reggie Rockstone in a conversation about the Ghanaian music scene as he believes there’s no industry yet and we ended up talking about some of the most impressive Ghanaian artists at the moment and who the new member of VVIP would want to sign had he establish “Django records”.

Sarkodie A

First on the list was BET Award winner and multiple Ghana Music Awards winner Michael Owusu Addo who plies the trade under the stage name Sarkodie but there was a question mark.

According to Grandpapa, Sarkodie was one of the most hardworking artists in the country and would be a good business asset to his record label. He however explained Sarkodie was way before his budget as it was not easy signing on a brand.

” Sarkodie has created a very expensive brand already and chale, it won’t be easy to sign him. That boy is smart oo” – He said.

guru

Second on the list was the “Lapaz Toyota” hitmaker Nana Yaw Adjei yeboah Maradona popularly known as Guru.

Explaining his choice of Guru over any other artist, CEO of Django Bar described Guru as a crowd puller and someone who had a mass appeal with his appearance and music. “You don’t want to sign someone who can’t make money for you right? He giggled.

M3nsa

Continuing with his possible “Django Records” artists list, Reggie mentioned M3nsa Ansah of FOKN Bois as real creative talent whose creative prowess has not exploited by anyone and the need to have him should he establish the record label anytime soon. According to him, none really comes close to M3nsa’s creative intellect.

joey-b-P

Oooh, lest I forget, Reggie Rockstone also talked about fast rising Fante rapper Pappy Kojo. He explained his choice of Pappy Kojo was because the young dude was creating a great image for himself within a short time and his future looked impressive.

He also explained, signing Pappy Kojo would also serve as a bait to secure Joey B who seems to be on the same row with Pappy Kojo after their hit sing “Realer No”.

Doesn’t the Grandpapa mind signing any female artist?

Well, according to him. The few female artists are doing well but would prefer to mount a search for another wild talent who could make it big in Ghana and out of Ghana.

Which Ghanaian artist would you sign should you have a record label?
